Diaa Character Development

Influence Map

I want Diaa's design to be representative of an innocent young Syrian man, so when looking for influences I searched for skinny, tall body types and young round faces.

I started off by exploring his character then I developed some of thumbnails that I liked, I preferably like A.3 and B.4...

I want his clothes to be quite casual complete with earthy tones to fit in with my theme for my overall style of my animation. In the audio track he mentions that he came from work when the mishap happened within the protest, A rolled up sleeved shirt and some plain grey pants seemed fitting!

Character Development: Bashar

I picked two thumbnails I made of Bashar's character and created variations of them, and this is what I came up with..

I incorporated assests that would make him recognisable as Bashar-al-asaad e.g pointy ears, moustache, defined hairline, outfit choice: suit and tie.

Experimenting with style

Style Influence Map:

I decided to look at the artwork/architecture from Syria and incorporate them in my designs to get influences from the culture which would give authenticity to my style I'm creating.

Experimenting In Photoshop:

I used various brushes to achieve a textured/stylised look and incorporated some shapes and sketchy designs influenced by the images in my influence map.
