Character: Sidekick Character Profile & Thumbnails

My sidekick Starts off as a henchman for my villian, Castello who forces a family business partner (who works as the head scientists for his company) to create a line of robots which obeyed only to his command. Castello informed the scientist to make them un-human like and more animalistic and scary and came up with the idea of incorporating dinosaur-like features. He wanted him to also make him a special one, a robot more powerful than the rest so he could use it as a bodyguard. When the scientist is in the process of making this, he becomes more aware of the terrible dangers this machine could do under the command of Castello, so when building it, he secretly creates a system which allows a user to override the robot.
When the scientist escapes, goes into hiding, stumbles into Jo and informs her of what is happening, they decide to undergo a mission to overide the machine and kill Castello.
Later in the season Jo and Omar have a plan of attack and they fight, and achieve their mission to some level. They were able to overide the machine, however Castello got away.

This robot then becomes the sidekick for the hero, Omar builds on him further to allow him to interact socially. CJ becomes more emotionally attached to Jo and her family and Omar as the series progresses and does whatever they command to protect them.

These are the thumbnails I created for the sidekick, I used influences of robot designs and attempted to subtly incorporate dinosaur features within them.

Any feedback on which design/ elements I should develop on, would be much appreciated! :)

Character: Story Development & Thumbnails

From my three Topics : Sci-fi, Dinosaurs, Escape, I created a story which is based in a sci-fi world which is set in the year 2100's. A  line up of robots was created by a family business set in America (Castello Industries), a multi-millionaire company which specialises in advanced technology.

My hero Jo was part of a line up which allowed her to act like a human - such as having concious thoughts, having free will, and ageing.
Different experiments had been made with robots, such as making each individual robot a different age/ creating robot families. My protagonist Jo was part of new experiment -. Her along with 29 other people were created to perform as humans in terms, of growth/aging process, and the ability to think and make choices, and to feel emotions. The experiment worked, and tests and tasks were set for the robots so the scientists could experiment with, Jo however overheard the scientist one day, and heard that their plan to experiment further was aborted, and that they needed to destroy the robots from this experiment due to the dangers it could create. A man named Jared helped Jo, and a new born (lily) escape however some were destroyed, and some others had made their own way out.

Jo grows up fending for the two characters who had helped her, she's a rebellious, tombyish, quirky, strong character who disguises as a human to get utilities and money for jared and lily, Growing up Jared got caught stealing, and was later recognised as one of the robots from the experiment which was meant to be terminated, he was beaten and nearly destroyed however he survived but lost his arm in the battle, which meant that Jo - the strongest of the three had to look after them.

By law, robots had to be owned by a human, and the robots were programmed to obey to the commands that humans gave them. Jo had a few attempts to act like a robot to get by, however she struggled alot with this and got suspicious looks due to her human characteristics, so she covers up and acts like a human instead.

This is my development on my hero so far, with the thumbnails I had created before I combined elements of the features I preferred, I wanted her to look fairly new and young. I am now starting to think of her outfit when she disguises as a human.

Character - Week 8: Creatures

In week's 8 lesson we learnt about various types of creatures by analysing their different anatomies, functions and qualities which refer to their adaptations of their environments. We each got given an environment to create a creature to understand the relationship between character and environment.

Character - Week 7: Environments

In week 7's class we learnt about how to create environments for characters. The excersize that we participated in involved creating an environment that was given to us - I got 'Gothic Saloon'.

Narrative: Compositing tests

I was experimenting with various tools within after effects, and ended up creating a dusty effect and applied it to one of our renders to see how it could work.

Narrative: Texturing The Bird

We decided to re-texture the bird so it looked more like the concept we created.

Character: Heroine Thumbnails

Here are some more sketches for my Heroine, and this time I attempted to make the body appear more proportionate. I combined various elements that I preferred, from my previous thumbnails to form new designs and I feel as if (1) would be a good design to elaborate on. Any feedback would be much appreciated :)

Maya Tutorials: Head Modelling Part 8: The Neck

Character: Heroine Influences & Drawings

Here are some rough thumbnails I experimented with by using my influence map.

Here are some thumbnails of my heroine's face, I decided to first try out different designs in the profile view to get a better understanding of the mechanical nature of her head. I also took advice from Justin about how to make the face appear younger, after struggling with my first attempt (1) as it looked too mature. So with the other versions, I made the jawline appear smaller and softer.

I also did some rough thumbnails of her body - I mainly wanted to focus on her body shape and specifically the upper-body, so then I would be able to elaborate in detail in the future.

Narrative: Mechanics Of The Bird

Here was our original concept for the insides of our bird, it was a glass cylinder which would attach to the spine of the bird. The cogs within them would be powered by air which travels inside the cylinder and pump it into the air bags, which represents the bird's lungs.

However when I came to modeling I noticed that the cylinder wouldn't be able to bend with the spine of our model, so I changed the design of the model to something which would be more appropriate for animating.

Narrative: Texturing and Shading The Nest

UV Maps

I re-modelled some parts of the nest to reduce the polycount as there was a lot of geometry. and made the base of the nest more flat and wider to have more room to animate in.
