Space and Environment : Online Greenlight Review

  1. OGR 12/10/2012

    Afternoon Nadia,

You know, I look at this OGR, at how meticulously it unpacks the source material - and the 3 influence maps that really nail the essence of this strange world (love the Magritte!) - and I get very excited, because I think to myself 'Nadia gets it'. This isn't the easiest of books, but perhaps it's the richest in terms of a backdrop for an animation, because it mixes the mundane with the surreal. But then - and you know this coming - I see the small amount of thumbnails (5 in nearly 3 weeks! Or maybe there are more kept out of sight?) and I'm really confused. Either you're not making the work - which is a problem, but one I'd be interested in hearing about - or you ARE participating with the creative challenge of this brief (and associated challenge of starting a brand new course in a new place), but simply finding it difficult to 'go public'. You wouldn't be the first to feel inhibited by the idea of working so openly and with such an emphasis on feedback, but it is how we do things here. Of course, it might be something else - or a mixture, but at this halfway point of your first project, it's time we had a chat.

There is intelligence expressed throughout your workflow - sophistication too, so why am I not more able to discuss excitedly your dozens of thumbnails, so that between us, and between your creative partners and mentors etc., we can ensure that come crit day you're presenting the most extraordinary set of digital paintings of which you're humanly capable?

It's this mystery I'd like you to solve when you email me at pgomm@ucreative.ac.uk to reassure me that all is well with you - and, if things are not, what more I may be able to do to ensure your experience here can be more obviously productive and positive. I suppose the truth is that I'm a bit worried about you, and I'd like not to be - and really what I'd like is to be enthusing over some fab thumbnail of yours... drop me a line, okay, and let me know what's going on and if all is well. I look forward to hearing from you :)
